A glimpse of the Uk

This summer not a lot of time was spend traveling, but I still managed a few days away. Thanks to a dear friend inviting me to stay with her.

Arriving at Birmingham airport early in the day meant we got to spend a good amount of time catching up and walking her adorable puppy.

We also got spend some time in a gorgeous furniture shop, as my friend was looking for something. I could have furnished several rooms with this old timey, yet modern and comfy pieces. And to top it off I got to compare American and German grocery stores with a Sansbury, which held a lot of the same items but also some surprises. I adored the little take away pies and I am still hoping to find "spring greens" some where.

The next day we spend spend sight seeing. We first went to Warwick, a quaint Tudor style town. We looked around the interesting houses and bought some small items at a farmers market. Next we went to Stratford. There were similar houses and off course the Shakespeare Theater. On my bucket list was added to go and see a play there.

This town was very lovely and we spend time soaking up the sunshine and watching people maneuver their long boats through a flood gate.

The last stop that day was to Leamington Spa. Gorgeous white fronts of the houses, lively bars and a place I could imagine living. We met a friend for yummy Pizza and she brought so much fun and laughter recalling her recent visit to a Glastonbury Music Festival. It sounded like a blast, even though I can not imagine going to something with that many people in one place.

Day three we stayed in the area where my friend lives, visited a car show. Her puppy had everyone stopping and talking to us, what a difference to when I walk Rags, lol. We also grabbed "Fish and Chips", which was really good but oh so greasy.

The next day was spend at the Peak District. A wondrous place for a hiker and we got to walk across a river using stepping stones, watched cows and sheep happily on fields and finished the day with a "Bakewell Tart". The town that invented this dessert was near by and so having a Bakewell in Bakewell was quite a touristy funny thing to do.

My last day we decided to use the mild weather and walk in a near by preserve, which was beautiful and so very void of other people. It filled my soul and empty batteries. We had lunch in a pup, very hearty and really good. The pup was just like I imagined it would be, like you see in any good British crime show, but with less people. I mean it was middle of the week lunch, if there were more people drinking I think it would have been strange.

The day I had to leave, we had a bit of time to kill and went to a Goodwill kind of store. This really old lady started talking to me. She held a kids skirt up and told me it would look good on me. I was not sure if I should laugh out loud or not. Then she kept talking to us and told me that she told her daughter to "Piss off". It felt really odd, to hear a sweet looking elderly lady use such words. From somewhere in the depth of the store an old man walked up, quite slowly, with jittering hands. He offered her his hand and she took it and off they went. Walking together away. My friend thought she might have had dementia as the cussing sometimes happens with people when they get like that. I think it might be odd, but somehow freeing too, when you do not have to be polite all the time.
