Back to the shore of Maine! I fall in love with it more and more. The cute little shore towns, with small shops, eateries and nice houses along the beaches. The best part though is you turn left and you are in a magical forestry place, where the houses are spread apart, nestled in between trees. The colorful siding peaking through the green and just green tall trees lining the roads everywhere.<
As if nature said, yep you may be here but only where I left you, the rest of the space is mine.
Originally something other location was planned, but after getting the move in instructions and realizing no sheets/towels would be provided, plus no washer on premise. I started to doubt my choice of lodging for the week. So I looked at the info again and noticed a lot of negative reviews, which I must have overlooked the first time. So en route I message the owners of the place we are staying in now and after some message exchanges, they said come on here.
This was the best decision! Not only was their guest suite closer to all the activities, it is gorgeous and sparkly clean. With a private courtyard to sit and sip wine. Just the right amount of space. for all of us, I could not be happier coming here instead.
A whirlwind visit from my dear friend brought sightseeing tours in Portland. Book "The real Portland Tour", the bus is small and the guide very funny. He will tell you so many tidbits that your head spins, but you will learn quite a bit and did I mention light houses are part of this.
We ate lobster and then some more lobster, oh and clam chowder. We walked on the beach. Laughing at the info that current water temperatures are 52 and that in late summer this ocean shore comes up to a "balmy" 68 degrees.
In between where the jitters at the vet for the travel documents, but that deserves it's own blog entry.
The only real let down was our whale watching trip. First one got canceled due to weather, rebook at a later date, minus my friend, who had to head home, and there was exactly ZERO whales or really any wildlife. Just a long boat ride, with an uncomfortable board to sit on and stare at the ocean. It was a gorgeous day and sunny, but that really did not make up for the disappointment. We can come back another time for free and I think it simply was too early in the season to turn out successful, just so sad.
Now at the end of our stay here I get sad to leave this magical place. I am sure I will return to see more of Maine as I have truly been captured by its landscape and respite.
And driving through country roads, to see many rainbow flags, uniting statement banners and other signs that the people here expressing the same sentiments I hold near to my heart, was just icing on the cake.
I can truly see why it says "Vacationland" on Maine's license plate.
